ZULU DAWN
In 1879, the British Colonies, in response to the perceived threat of the Zulu Nation, deliver a deliberately unacceptable ultimatum to the King who responds by putting his people on a war footing. Confident in their weapons technology and organization's ability to crush the seemingly outclassed primitive enemy, the British invade Zululand. General Lord Chelmsford sends in hundreds of British troops in order to squash the spear-carrying Africans with superior fire power. The sheer number of Zulus, however, overwhelms the British infantry.
Featuring an all-star cast in Peter O'Toole, Burt Lancaster, Denholm Elliot and Sir John Mills, this film was intended as a companion film to the 1964 classic 'Zulu'. However, this tense drama and stands alone as one of the finest historical action movies and accurately re-tells the military disaster of the British invasion of Zululand.
Starring: Burt Lancaster, Peter O'Toole, Sir John Mills and Bob Hoskins

WELCOME TO SARAJEVO
Stephen Dillane is British journalist Michael Henderson, who decides to risk everything to help the innocent people of a besieged city. With support from the flamboyant 'star' American journalist, Flynn (Woody Harrelson), and aid worker, Nina (Marisa Tomei), Henderson embarks on a perilous and terrifying journey to evacuate the city's orphan children to safety.
The film is inspired by the true story of ITV news reporter Michael Nicholson, who after months of reporting on the siege of Sarajevo, smuggled a child out of the war-torn city and later adopted her. However, the film is much more that a story of one man's personal act of compassion, it is a harrowing and moving tribute to a city that refused to give in.
PLATOON
Platoon is the powerful, reverting and starkly brutal tale of a naïve American soldier's (Charlie Sheen) descent into the chaos and horror of the Vietnam War. "Harrowingly realistic and completely convincing" (Leonard Marin), it is a "dark, unforgettable memorial" (The Washington Post) to every soldier whose innocence was lost in the war-torn jungles of Vietnam.
TORA! TORA! TORA!
Tora! Tora! Tora! is the Japanese signal to attack - and the movie meticulously recreates the attack on Pearl Harbour and the events leading up to it.
Opening scenes contrast the American and Japanese positions. Japanese imperialists decide to stage the attack. Top U.S. brass ignore its possibility. Intercepted Japanese messages warn of it - but never reach F.D.R.'s desk. Radar warnings are disregarded. Even the entrapment of a Japanese submarine in Pearl Harbor before the attack goes unreported.
Ultimately, the Day of Infamy arrives - in the most spectacular, gut-wrenching cavalcade of action-packed footage ever. It's the most dazzling recreation of America's darkest day - and some of her finest hours
M*A*S*H
It's set during the Korean War, in a mobile army surgical hospital. But no one seeing MASH in 1970 confused the film for anything but a caustic comment on the Vietnam War; this is one of the counterculture movies that exploded into the mainstream at the end of the 1960s. Director Robert Altman had laboured for years in television and sporadic feature work when this smash-hit comedy made his name (and allowed him to create an astonishing string of offbeat pictures, culminating in the masterpiece Nashville). Altman's style of cruel humour, overlapping dialogue, and densely textured visuals brought the material to life in an all-new kind of war movie (or, more precisely, antiwar movie). Audiences had never seen anything like it: vaudeville routines played against spurting blood, fuelled with open ridicule of authority. The cast is led by Elliott Gould and Donald Sutherland, as the outrageous surgeons Hawkeye Pierce and Trapper John McIntyre, with Robert Duvall as the uptight Major Burns and Sally Kellerman in an Oscar-nominated role as nurse "Hot Lips" Houlihan. The film's huge success spawned the long-running TV series, a considerably softer take on the material; of the film's cast, only Gary Burghoff repeated his role on the small screen, as the slightly clairvoyant Radar O'Reilly. --Robert Horton
PATTON
"There's only one proper way for a professional soldier to die: the last bullet of the last battle of the last day" - George C Scott as Patton
A critically acclaimed film that won a total of seven 1970 Academy Awards® (including Best Picture), Patton is a riveting portrait of one of the 20th Century's greatest military geniuses.
One of its Oscars® went to George C. Scott for his triumphant portrayal of George Patton, the only allied general truly feared by the Nazis. Charismatic and flamboyant, Patton designed his own uniforms, sported ivory-handled six-shooters, and believed he was a warrior in past lives.
He outmaneuvered Rommel in Africa, and after D-Day led his troops in an unstoppable campaign across Europe. But he was rebellious as well as brilliant, and as Patton shows with insight and poignancy, his own volatile personality was the one enemy he could never defeat.
THE GREAT ESCAPE

LAWENCE OF ARABIA
In 1962 Lawrence of Arabia scooped another seven Oscars for David Lean and crew after his previous epic, The Bridge on the River Kwai, had performed exactly the same feat a few years earlier. Supported in this Great War desert adventure by a superb cast including Alex Guinness, Jack Hawkins and Omar Sharif, Peter O'Toole gives a complex, star-making performance as the enigmatic TE Lawrence. The magnificent action and vast desert panoramas were captured in luminous 70mm by Cinematographer Freddie Young, here beginning a partnership with Lean that continued through Dr Zhivago (1965) and Ryan's Daughter (1970). Yet what made the film truly outstanding was Robert (A Man For All Seasons) Bolt's literate screenplay, marking the beginning of yet another ongoing collaboration with Lean. The final partnership established was between director and French composer Maurice Jarre, who won one of the Oscars and scored all Lean's remaining films, up to and including A Passage to India in 1984. Fully restored in 1989, this complete version of Lean's masterpiece remains one of cinema's all-time classic visions.

As their friendship develops, Stingo starts to become aware of the demons that haunt Sophie, and the obsessions Nathan harbours that look set to destroy his relationship with Sophie.
In flashback, Sophie starts to open up to Stingo, revealing her harrowing past, and the horrific choice she had to make in the concentration camp, that altered her life forever.
This multi-award winning drama, won Meryl Streep both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award, for her truly outstanding performance.
HENRY V
Based on the most popular of Shakespeare’s historical plays, Henry V was made to boost the morale of British troops during World War Two. Laurence Olivier was Oscar®- nominated for his mesmerising performance as King Henry V, with an excellent supporting cast that includes theatre veterans Leslie Banks (Fire Over England), Robert Newton (Oliver Twist), George Cole (St.Trinians; Minder) and Renee Ashershon (Midsomer Murders). The film was also Oscar®-nominated for Best Picture. Granada International has remastered this film from original 35mm film to the latest High Definition format with full digital restoration.
Henry V, King of England, appeals to the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of Ely to support him in his claim to the Crown of France, whilst a host of lords and dignitaries lend their ears to the discussion.
Henry wins the argument and siege is laid to Harfleur. But the victorious ending of this campaign finds Henry with an army sadly decimated by sickness. He decides to make his way back to Calais and return to his own country from there. But the French decide otherwise, and to his dismay Henry finds himself blocked by a vastly superior army. The battle of Agincourt is at hand.
The night before the battle Henry, disguised as a common soldier, goes from tent to tent, giving courage to his men, and his mission is not without avail. The following day, the two armies meet in mortal combat, the battle is opened by the thrilling surge of the French Cavalry charge, and gradually the English win the day. Henry himself vanquishes the Constable of France in a single combat, and the French forces are eclipsed.
Henry, however, bears the French no ill-will, and visits the court of the French King where he is captivated by the King’s daughter, Princess Katharine. Henry ardently woos her and the wedding of Henry and Katharine is solemnised before the Court, marking the beginning of a promising alliance with France.
Olivier’s visionary version of Shakespeare’s play was nominated for three Oscars and won an Honorary Award for Laurence Olivier for his outstanding achievement as actor, producer and director.

Supported by an all-star cast and produced on a grand scale, the film was an enormous success, receiving seven 1961 Academy Award(r) nominations (including Best Picture) and winning for Best Special Effects. Although Foreman achieved his goal, it was MacLean who would wind up the true beneficiary; his novels became the source for many high adventure screen epics, including Ice Station Zebra and Where Eagles Dare.
